Cole & Sons history
- Cole & Son was founded by John Perry in London in 1875. A few years later, he opened a wallpaper factory. During his lifetime, John Perry acquired a large number of pattern woodblocks. He developed new techniques, including creating a process to imitate silk on wallpaper. He also revived an old Dutch method for making velvet wallpaper.
- John Perry died in 1940, and his family sold the company to AP Cole, who had the company Cole & Son Ltd. The purchase included 2000 woodblocks used in wallpaper printing. During the 1950s and 1960s, some of the most iconic wallpapers of modern times were created, such as Woods and Palm Leaves. In 1961, Cole & Son became a royal warrant holder, supplying wallpaper to Queen Elizabeth II.
- In the 2000s and 2010s, Cole & Son collaborated with luxury design houses such as the Italian Fornasetti and the South African Ardmore Ceramic Art. A few years ago, in 2019, Cole & Son launched its first fabric collection.
