Wallpaper trends 2022 – earthy calm wallpapers but also splashes of color and joyful patterns

The wallpaper trends of 2022 are characterized by harmony and balance, but also large retro patterns and many colorful walls. Blue and green remain popular and are competing with purple wallpapers.

Velvet Leaves Borastapeterilta 2259

Warm colors in red, brown, and orange and large expressive patterns are trendy right now. Here is Velvet Leaves from Boråstapeter.

Go big with large wallpaper patterns

This year, it's all about colors, dense detailed patterns, and playfulness on the walls. Let your personal style and personality shine through in your choice of wallpaper!

Zingkorre

Cornucopia

Aquila

Singita

The wallpaper Zingkorre from Boråstapeter is playful with jumping squirrels among large leaves. The wallpaper is part of the Swedish Designers collection, which Boråstapeter hopes will become future classics. The wallpaper is designed by Hanna Werning, who is also the artist behind the imaginative wallpapers Friviva, Pangsurr, Kvackstepp, and Turgräs.

Långelid/von Brömssen's densely patterned and lush wallpaper Cornucopia is available in four colors.

Rebel Walls, known for its cool mural and photo wallpapers, has released its first collection of regular wallpapers. The wallpaper Aquila, which has a dense coral pattern, is part of the Oddity collection.

Cole & Sons wallpaper Singita from the collection Ardmore is expressive with its dense leaf pattern. The wallpaper is also available in a darker color scheme.

Retro wallpapers always trendy

We know that trends go in cycles; what was fashionable a few decades ago returns at regular intervals. Style-specific wallpapers from different eras, even if newly produced and with updated colors, showcase that good design stands the test of time and is a sustainable choice.

Prunus

Staircase

Pimpernel

Anita

Stig Lindberg's plum pattern Prunus was created in 1962 and is known from kitchen porcelain. The graphic classic is available as wallpaper in two colors from Boråstapeter. The wallpaper is part of the collection Scandinavian Designers III.

The graphic wallpaper Staircase from Boråstapeter with playful spiral staircases has a clear retro style. The pattern was created by Danish architect Bent Karlby in the 1950s.

William Morris's most popular wallpaper, Pimpernel, which was designed as early as 1876, now comes in four new fresh colors. Morris & Co wants to cheer us up with the new collection Simply Morris after two years mostly spent at home, with an optimistic collection in refreshing and light colors.

The wallpaper Anita is the personification of the 1970s with large patterns and strong contrasts. It is also available in a wonderfully orange explosion of color and a darker black-brown-gray. The wallpaper is part of Boråstapeter's collection Vårt Arkiv.

Calm and harmonious wallpapers in a hectic world

For many of us, the past few years have been overwhelming with stress and worry. The home needs to be a calm oasis of balance, harmony, and rest, the place where we can disconnect from all worries.

Skog

Acanthus

Severn

Brother

Mist brings calm. The mural wallpaper Forest from Sandberg now comes in a new blue color, while the favorite green color returns. The wallpaper is part of the collection Earthy

Soft, pink colors are soothing and also easy to combine with, for example, gray and beige. The wallpaper Acanthus from Boråstapeter is an old favorite that has been given new life. It now comes in ten color options, most of which are soft and soothing pastels.

The William Morris pattern Simply Severn is new as a wallpaper, but the pattern itself was created back in the 1880s-1890s. A densely patterned but calm and harmonious wallpaper available in four colors.

Plain wallpapers should not be underestimated. The plain wallpaper Brother makes the room calm, stripped-down, and thanks to the fabric-like texture in the wallpaper, much cozier than a painted wall. The wallpaper is part of Boråstapeter's low-key collection Melody and comes in six soft colors, the wallpaper in the picture is middle green.

Purple wallpapers are on the rise

This year might be the year of purple wallpaper. Everything from deep plum purple to fresh light purple and soft lavender purple wallpapers.

Fir Forest

Vilda

Color Clouds

Sunday

The mural wallpaper Fir Forest comes from Rebel Walls. Fir Forest is a calm wallpaper with a fir forest awakening to a new day.

Sandberg's mural wallpaper Vilda is dreamy and similarly depicts the early morning light in the meadow.

Rebel Walls' mural wallpaper Color Clouds is a rich, purple-reddish-brown, and warm wallpaper that gives a safe and cozy feeling.

The sunflower wallpaper Sunday from Studio Lisa Bengtsson on a purple background is a beautiful eye-catcher. The wallpaper is also a cool choice if you want to wallpaper the ceiling.

Bird Wallpapers Are Making a Comeback

Almost all major wallpaper manufacturers have beautiful bird wallpapers in their latest collections. Birds signal optimism and hope for the future and are a sure sign of spring—something that is much needed in these times.

Eugen.

Protea Garden

Kiurujen Yö

Pippi

From Swedish Sandberg comes the bird wallpaper Eugen, promising warm summer evenings with birdsong in the garden.

Cole & Sons' intensely patterned wallpaper Protea Garden has a dense pattern of sunbirds and chameleons among grapevines and South Africa's national flower, the King Protea. This warm wallpaper is available both as non-woven wallpaper and with silk printing, making it extra luxurious. The wallpaper is part of Cole & Sons' latest collection Ardmore Jabula.

Pihlgren & Ritola's incredibly popular wallpaper Kiurujen Yö was designed as early as 1958 by Birger Kaipiainen. It is clear evidence that wallpapers do not need to be new to be trendy.

The colorful bird wallpaper Pippi comes from Swedish Studio Lisa Bengtsson. The wallpaper is exclusive and so rich in color and detail that it has been run through the printing machine three times with precision to capture all the colors and layers. A lovely wallpaper that brings a lot of joy!

Graphic and Checked Wallpapers

Graphic shapes, preferably with feathers and other soft lines, will take their place on the walls this year. Checked wallpapers are timeless and resurface as trendy every now and then.

Narina

Herman

Picnic

Espalier

Cole & Sons's densely patterned wallpaper Narina has a geometric pattern of feathers from the narina bird. Here in a burnt orange color that is strongly emerging in the interior design world, as well as other earthy red and brown tones.

Sandberg's checkered wallpaper Herman is harmonious and calm and fits perfectly in a country kitchen environment. Here in a light mist blue shade.

Långelid/von Brömssen's classic checkered wallpaper Picnic promises summer and sun and lazy days with outdoor lunches on the blanket in the park. In addition to green, the wallpaper is also available in red, blue, beige, and yellow.

The graphic wallpaper Espalier comes from Swedish Littlephant. It fits just as well in the living room as in the children's room.

Blue, green, and nature-inspired wallpapers remain popular

Nature remains a constant presence in interior design in 2022 as well. We let nature inspire us and provide a breath of fresh air. We see that the trend of blue and green wallpapers will continue for another year.

Ranke

Sandberg's floral mural wallpaper Belinda is magnificent with majestic magnolias climbing up the walls. The same pattern is found in the wallpaper Linda, albeit on a smaller scale. Both Belinda and Linda are part of the collection Kolonin.

From Sandberg comes the indigo blue wallpaper Evelina with colors that are tone in tone. The wallpaper is available in three colors.

Boråstapeter's popular wallpaper Dahlia Garden with magnificent dahlias has come in three new colors - brown, blue, and red-orange.

The forest green winding wallpaper Ranke from Boråstapeter was created by Arne Jacobsen already in the 1960s. It still feels modern today and is a beautiful and calm alternative if you are looking for a green wallpaper.
